Lockdown

We have been on lock-down 5 weeks on Monday and for me at-least, it seems to be rolling into one long week… I lose track of days/times, bin collections etc. Its such an unprecedented situation and on the whole I think the majority of people are coping reasonably well. One of the positive things to come out of this pandemic is that many of us have taken stock of what is important in our lives respectively. Do we need a perfectly clean showroom condition house all the time? Do we need to have the latest tech or the newest car? For some these items are essential and for some of us; not so much.

Whilst on lockdown, I have been doing some much needed DIY. My home has been neglected since we started the business due to never really finding the time to do the decorating or renovations. Bare essentials were done and that was pretty much it. We have tiled our front porch which was all cracked and needed tidying up. I was really surprised with the results and I’m now considering doing my hallway! We are also de-cluttering and trying to get on top of the never ending washing pile.

My house unfortunately isn’t showroom condition and often gets neglected as when I’m not working out in customers houses, I’m doing my admin, marketing, banking, blogging, or simply being a mum and taking the girls to their many clubs. As a mum I sometimes feel the guilt creeping in that I cant juggle all the balls and keep the house sparkling too but I am only one woman and I am providing for my family. Since we went into lockdown I have realised that some balance may be needed so I’m going to try to keep on top on the housework a little more.

The girls are starting to struggle and are missing their friends and school! The social aspect of the lockdown is the hardest I find personally. Although we have zoom and facetime, its simply not the same as a good catch up over coffee and cake! Some aspects of the new guidelines I find refreshing, its a much nicer experience doing your shopping now with less customers allowed in the store. Whilst this could be inconvenient if you are on a lunch break or in a rush overall I wouldn’t be too fussed if something along those lines stayed in force after the pandemic has been and gone.

I think this has reminded me of how fragile life can be and also that the one thing we are never guaranteed is more time. Time can not be bought or kept and it something which we all want more of. As a mum of two young children, this pandemic has made me think about different scenarios and has made me realise that spending time with them and creating memories with them is my priority; above everything else, the housework, the decorating, the admin or the banking.

As long as I have two happy, healthy young children and a happy husband then I am content with what we have achieved.

So to all you key workers who are away from your families, all the shop and lorry drivers delivering our groceries. To all the amazing people who are volunteering and working in the community - THANK YOU!
