The power of steam
I have been asked by a few people about what product I use on floors, particularly hard floors so I thought Id do a short blog about what I use and why.
When we think of our floors and the use they get, how many germs do you think they harbour? Of course it depends on what surface but the average kitchen floor will harbour thousands of germs! Now when we talk of germs and bacteria we assume all are bad but in fact we have bacteria which grows in us and we need however Id rather not run the risk so we will just air on the side of caution and clean the floors! lol
When I clean hard floors - laminate, tiles, lino, vinyl etc, I like to use flash multi surface. Its cheap, multifunctional, kills 99.9% of germs and smells nice. Some people prefer zoflora or bleach but I just stick with flash. The pink one is my favourite - The smell is divine!
Depending on the type of flooring, I use a flat mop for tiles and a steam mop for laminate/wood. Reason being water can damage the joins in wooden flooring.
The flat mop I use comes with a velcro pad which washes in the machine. Id recommend buying a few spares for when its in the wash or simply needs replaced. These flat mops are great because it comes with a built in function for wringing out which is so easy to use. You just place the head flat and upright and pull the lever back and forth, then its ready to use again. These mops glide over tiles and can fit in the smallest of areas/gaps, down the side of the appliances, under plinths etc. Very handy for those hard to reach areas. They are lightweight and can manoeuvre in various directions easily. Easy to store and no nasty lingering mop drying smell.! Bonus.
The steam mop I use is a multi functional one which is extremely handy for stubborn and small gaps such as grout, tiles etc. It comes with various steam settings and you can even keep on top of your oven with it! Again I recommend buying various pads to go on it and Id steer clear of the cheaper ones off ebay etc… Official is best with these as I made the error of buying cheaper, universal ones and it leaked etc when in use so Id recommend against it. A tip for tiles and grout - If you clean them first with HG Grout Cleaner and a tile cleaner, then steam them, you can literally see the dirt running down the wall! Eye opener for most of us who think the showers clean!
I use a vax branded steam mop as in my opinion it offers excellent value for money. Its worth buying a steam mop if you want to keep on top of the floor area without having to wait for it to dry and it drys pretty much instantly and also if you want a handheld steamer for those jobs such as grout cleaning, extractor cleaning etc.
Take a look below at the mops I have. Mine get used regularly for end of tenancy cleaning and house cleaning so they have stood the test of time.
